what was the question again?...

i nodded off a bit sitting here with the laptop on my lap... our conversation says 'about an hour ago' which inspires a laugh...so i see you left words and i look at them now... and i'll try to respond even not quite sure how...

that is how i started a response to a friend i had not heard from in a year or more in response to a somewhat cryptic mystic obscure statement/question:

"time goes backwards"

no, don't spend it ALL in WON plays

as for next time, i was wondering... have you found that some : pressure, pain, or symmetry is agreeable for the long term?

and i nodded off, as i said, and woke to ponder the words and found myself thinking about my history and the choices i've made and the rest of my response, for what it's worth, follows:

ah, the man speaks in riddles, "time goes backwards" and so many references come to mind, but having the internet handy, i will see what is outside of my head before i look inside... a song?... the obvious reference seems easy to find... and there is pulp fiction and other movies that use flashback and rewind and other narrative techniques... there are reverse cameras, ps3s has one i heard... and another song... going to princeton?... and in my head...

what if time goes nowhere...

and if not all in won plays, then lose sometimes?... this seems to blend into the next query, yes, there is much value in symmetry, in knowing both sides of a coin, in experiencing the pleasure and the pain... in the pain education can be found that provides more appreciation of the pleasure, but more, in the pain the decision comes, the decision of strength - how strong will i be?... when will i give up?...

in pressure it is very similar... from physical pressure to peer pressure to family pressure to societal pressure to conform, there is the decision... ultimately, the question - how much shall i compromise?... how much shall i do what i do not want to do in order to get what i want in this world, in this life, and from others?...

it is not a matter of finding a middle like everybody else, on the contrary, to those who demand (out of fear of extremes or fear of change) that we all sit quietly in the middle i say - there must be at least two extremes for there to be a middle...

some don't get that...

the question i faced in my journey through the extremes was - how much independence did i want?... i decided i wanted all the independence i could get, which mean drifting a bit through life but also working way more than i ever thought i would...

reeling in the years on my memory to answer this question, i remember running away to the army to be free of my parents rules and to be independent from their teat... that was a nightmare in many ways because i because i had to depend on the government for money to pay for the semi-independence i had and had to follow all the government rules that i did not like... and then i wandered a bit and decided the streets were not where i wanted to live for as independent as that seems, the choices of what to do are very limited and i wanted to do more than was available living on charity... so i got a job and worked for others and along the way, i found a niche that satisfies me at work even though i would still like more time away from woirk - but that is my compromise... i could have taken more, saved more, given less, and had more now - but i love the memories of the life i lived and i love the life i live now...

my independence came from working jobs i enjoy which let me do anything i want to do within acceptable limits...

did i cop out?... a little... might i have done it differently if i could?... maybe... am i happy?... yup... and in the end, i think being happy is the answer i want from myself most...

and now i wonder - what is on your mind?

what prompts the questions?

and if you have not answered the questions for yourself yet, what possible answers do you ponder?

hope you are well tonight :)

hence, the title (aye?), what was the question again? :)

the fish market

was that too irreverent?... the title, i mean... well, you may have more of an opinion after realizing that this entry is presenting the response i sent to someone who reached out to me via the plenty of fish website... you may remember the profile and assessment and summary they put together from my answers to their questions... i wonder how much of that actually gets seen on their website... anyway, this was my response to the high-end call girl, i mean, classy lady (hey, she said sense of humor was as essential as breathing... wonder if she meant my sense of humor or somebody else's... irreverence is not just a great defense, it's also amusing sometimes... at least it is to me... anyway, as i was saying/writing before the parentheses interrupted) who responded to me today...

Finding what appears to be an email suggesting that you have reached out to me leads me to believe I ought to check my email more often... a sense of humor is the primary reason i am still alive, which is a suggestive way of agreeing with your first words... i am challenged by a lack of time for myself lately and in turn, a lack of sleep, so to say i am slacking on self-nurturing is an understatement, so whatever wisdom i may have suggests this is no time to start meeting new people... really, i consider myself a pathetic shell of the person i might have been had i not given everything away a few times in this life... still, i love to laugh at my pathos and don't cry over spilled milk (though give me a good tearjerker movie, but that's besides the point, he says slightly smirking)... you have, however, inspired my smile and i thank you for that and send you these words... erveryone is as equal as they want to be in my mind... i don't recall ever being on an actual date... i have not been formal in years, suits are in storage just north of niagara falls (slowly i turn) along with enough stuff to open an ebay store (which i might do one of these days if i ever take a day off)... i've been rich, i've been poor, i've been in between... i've enoyed all of it, though rich leaves much more time to play and i love to play (the child inside is alive and well and shall never give up on some dreams)... your 'life should be lived thirds' concept inspired this instant response (well, instant from my perspective) and interested in communicating with you... and i agree as i laugh at myself and say (to myself, you don't have to listen) - wonderful balance i've got to get better at one of these days... what?... not giving it all away every time? (self-mockery keeps me semi-sane, again, a comfortable smile that hopefully shows through in the words, but is noted just in case it doesn't)... and yes, i am told i write too much, share too much, give too much, even talk too much from time to time... most people seem to want bland and light, no matter what they say... writing is my personal pasttime... wanna see my blogs? (and if you are not laughing, oh well, i'm just not amusing you)...

i can be too serious too... so seriously, today i do not think that i am not the man you are looking for... that is my self-assessment of me, no judgment of you at all... that is not my decision, but just my guess... i am not trying to come on or turn you off, i am trying to be your friend... and yes, i have been told i am too honest too... i wonder if our senses of humor might be lifelong friends and never knew it... or tennis partners... do you play spades?... softball?... or perhaps you might just sell me a house someday...

wait, which part was the serious part again? :)

thank you for reaching out,
ric

so little me time

and what's the point of me time, one might ask (me, for instance)... especially from the perspective or belief that the primary point of this physical life is sharing... but then, share what?... share everything... and then, share with whom?... with anyone who truly cares... and what do i have to offer in this sharing of everything with anyone who truly cares?...

me!...

wow, this could be profound if i was stoned... amused?...

hey, that was an exclamation point after all... so is the point of me time to develop more of me to share so i can share more (cuz it's really not fair if i bring next to nothing and everybody else brings a lot, right?)... so there it is, the point of me time is to develop more me to share (as part of everything) with anyone who truly cares...

isn't it great to get life all figured out?

now, if only there was more me time :}
